Amanda Cook

Amanda Cook has been working in the Astrophysics & Astrochemistry Laboratory group at NASA's Ames Research Center, since 2010.  Her work in the lab focuses on the evolution of PAHs and other aromatic biomarkers in astrophysically relevant environments. Her recent laboratory work supported fascinating data obtained from the O/OREOS nanosatellite mission. She also works as a contractor for Millennium Engineering, developing and testing new spectrometer designs for missions to Mars and the Moon.

Amanda studied Astrophysics at Connecticut College, in New London, CT, and went on to obtain her Master's degree in Physics (2007) and PhD in Astrobiology (2010) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in upstate New York. Her thesis research, led by Douglas C. B. Whittet, focused on astronomical observations of the chemistry occurring around young stellar objects embedded in dark clouds.

In her spare time, Amanda likes go to live concerts, test her patience by refinishing furniture that is probably best left alone, and laugh with her very funny husband Brian.

Amanda's major publications can be found on the Astrochemistry Laboratory's Publications Pages.
